Quetta : The Balochistan government has dismissed another 72 doctors for prolonged unauthorised absence from duty as part of a province-wide crackdown on absenteeism in the health department, Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti announced on Saturday.
Speaking about the disciplinary action, the chief minister said the total number of government employees dismissed over unauthorised absence had reached 200.
He also announced the introduction of an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based attendance monitoring system in the provincial health department for the first time to ensure staff accountability, improve attendance and strengthen the delivery of public healthcare services.
According to Mir Sarfraz Bugti, the provincial government has deducted Rs410 million from employees’ salaries over various disciplinary violations. Meanwhile, approximately 11,000 government employees have been issued show-cause notices for negligence, absenteeism and failure to perform their official responsibilities.
The chief minister further revealed that departmental proceedings are currently underway against 800 government employees as part of the government’s efforts to improve administrative discipline and ensure accountability across public institutions.
Bugti emphasised that government employees are public servants and must discharge their responsibilities with honesty, dedication and professionalism.
He said the government would not tolerate negligence, prolonged unauthorised absence or failure to perform official duties, particularly in essential public service departments such as healthcare.
The introduction of the AI-based attendance system is expected to strengthen monitoring mechanisms in government hospitals and health facilities across Balochistan, helping ensure that doctors and other healthcare staff remain present to provide services to patients.
The provincial government’s latest measures reflect an intensified effort to address absenteeism, improve institutional performance and strengthen accountability within Balochistan’s public healthcare system.
