Decades since he wowed audiences as the brave Rick O’Connell, Brendan Fraser is back in the saddle for The Mummy 4.
A First look at pictures from the set of the film show the Oscar winner reprising his role as the film’s protagonist, nearly 27 years after the 1999 original released in theaters.
Inside info: here’s what we know about The Mummy 4
The freshly surfaced set photos feature Fraser in the rugged attire of O’Connell’s adventurous globetrotter, a throwback to the kind of globe-trotting archeological escapades featured in the original trilogy.
Details about the plot are being kept under wraps, but firsthand information from the production indicates that the film is tying directly into the mythos set up by the original late-’90s to early-2000s films and is ditching previous reboot attempts, leaning much more into legacy nostalgia.
“To write a character like Rick O’Connell again needs to be with the right script. It also has to be with the right spirit. It’s kind of like going back to an old adventure after all these years.”
