PESHAWAR: The Elementary and Secondary Education Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has taken a vital step toward promoting modern technology by establishing the country’s first Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Digital Institute, ARY News reported.
The department established the institute with the aim of promoting AI and digitizing the education sector.
The AI and Digital Institute comprises seven members and will provide technical frameworks and guidelines.The institute will also suggest systemic improvements to eliminate manual procedures within the education department.
To ensure transparency and improve service delivery, the institute will work on developing modern digital applications.
Earlier, citizens in KP will now be able to access their driving licences on their mobile phones under a new digital system introduced by the provincial police.
The new service allows citizens to obtain an electronic driving licence online and present it on their mobile devices when required.
Under the system, users can enter their national identity card number through the Rabta app to obtain a digital version of their driving licence. Officials say the licence can be generated within minutes.
Traffic officials in Peshawar have also been instructed to accept valid digital driving licences as legally recognized documents.
This means motorists who do not have their physical licence with them will not be fined solely for failing to carry it, provided they can produce a valid digital licence on their mobile phone.
Authorities say the new system is aimed at making traffic-related services more convenient while reducing the need for citizens to carry physical documents.
The licence details can also be verified digitally, which officials say could make roadside checks faster and more transparent.
The chief traffic officer Peshawar, Dr. Mohammad Zahid has said that the introduction of the digital driving licence is an important step towards greater use of technology in the traffic police system.
The service is also expected to benefit people who forget or lose their physical driving licences.
