LAHORE – The Punjab government has begun preparations for a major Basant festival, with officials reviewing administrative arrangements, cultural activities and plans to give the event a modern and attractive look.
A meeting to discuss preparations for the festival was held at the Jilani Park headquarters under the chairmanship of Managing Director of the Horticulture Agency Lahore, Ahmad Usman Javed.
Additional Managing Director Tasleem Akhtar Rao, Director Finance Ahmad Saeed Manj, Director Marketing Naeem Afzal and other senior officers attended the meeting.
Officials provided detailed briefings on arrangements made during previous festivals and presented proposals for the upcoming event. The meeting reviewed the overall strategy, administrative requirements and measures needed to ensure the successful organization of the festival.
A plan was also discussed to divide the city’s major roads into different categories and decorate them according to modern and international standards. The proposed decorations will form part of efforts to create a festive atmosphere across Lahore and highlight the city’s cultural character.
Ahmad Usman Javed said the Basant festival would be developed as a historic cultural event in line with Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s vision.
He said the administration was working to ensure that the festival presented Punjab’s cultural heritage in a safe, peaceful and attractive manner.
“The event will showcase the safe, peaceful and vibrant face of Punjab’s culture,” the managing director said.
The officials also reviewed logistical and administrative arrangements and discussed further measures required to make the festival a memorable event for residents and visitors.
The meeting concluded with directions to relevant departments to finalize their preparations and coordinate closely to ensure that all arrangements were completed in accordance with the planned strategy.
