Astronym™ is gearing up to be the independent software solution for domain registries worldwide
SHERIDAN, Wyo., Sept. 01, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — The domain registry world is about to get another player. Registered Agents Inc (RAI) is launching its own all-new registry infrastructure, built entirely from scratch, designed to give gTLD operators and ccTLDs more choice for the technology behind their domains.
Astronym Registry™ is poised to be the independent alternative for TLD operators, registrars and sovereign registries not wanting to use publicly-traded companies or investor-owned registry infrastructure solutions.
At the helm of the initiative is 40 year domains veteran Christopher Ambler, formerly of Microsoft, Enom and GoDaddy, and current Director of Domain Registry at Registered Agents Inc. Bringing experience from the beginnings of the internet (and famous for the .web wars of the early 2000s), Ambler left publicly-traded GoDaddy for RAI with the goal of building a new kind of registry, not driven by investor control, but focused on independence and quality. At RAI since 2022, Ambler led RAI’s effort to build the Astronym™ backend software from the ground up.
“We think registry operators, both generic as well as country code, deserve more options,” said Ambler. “So, we built one. Astronym is independent, modern and designed to give operators more control over the technology powering their domains.”
Six New TLDs and an Even Bigger Plan
The company has also applied for six new generic top-level domains through ICANN’s 2026 New gTLD Program: .epic, .identity, .mark, .private, .registeredagent and .verified.
Registered Agents Inc wants to promote TLDs to its six million-plus customers who care about independence — independence from Big Tech. Big Data. And Big Corporate. With a larger business-to-business customer base than GoDaddy, the company is uniquely positioned to bring better TLDs to the business world than any other registry operator.
“We’re not building Astronym to only run six domains,” Ambler said. “We’re building the infrastructure for a much bigger registry business.”
Registered Agents Inc is actively pursuing partnerships with registry operators and is also exploring opportunities to acquire existing registries from owners looking for an exit. Company leaders say they look forward to offering highly competitive backend software pricing.
