PIMS releases identity of newborns killed in nursery fire

ISLAMABAD: The administration of Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) Hospital has released the identity of the 14 newborn babies who died in the devastating fire that broke out in the hospital’s nursery, along with details of the baby who was rescued alive.

According to the list issued by PIMS, 14 newborns lost their lives in the tragedy, while one baby was successfully rescued.

The deceased babies were identified as:

Newborn of Javeria (mother), Samiullah (father).
Newborn of Alia (mother), Rashid (father).
Newborn of Anisa (mother), Abdullah (father).
Newborn of Aasia Bibi (mother),  Bahad (father)
Newborn of Shakila (mother), Muhammad Tanveer (father)
Newborn of Sidra (mother), Imran (father)
Newborn of Sumbal (mother), Usman (father)
Newborn of Kiran Fatima (mother), Muhammad Saad-ur-Rehman (father)
Newborn of Amina (mother), Khurram (father)
Newborn of Maria (mother), Qayyum (father)
Newborn of Khizra (mother), Mudassar (father)
Newborn of Hafsa, (mother), Ishtiaq (father)
Newborn of Aroosa Saeed, (mother), Idrees Khan (father)

PIMS stated that the rescued newborn’s mother is Asifa and father is Waqas.

The fire tragedy has prompted calls for a thorough investigation into the incident and a review of fire safety arrangements at the hospital.

It is to be noted that fourteen infants were killed on Wednesday morning in a fire at the gynaecology ward of the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), Islamabad’s premier public hospital.
