A high-level dialogue on “Low-Carbon Transition in Pakistan” was held today at the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), bringing together representatives from the business community, climate and environmental organizations, policy circles, media and other relevant stakeholders to discuss Pakistan’s pathway towards a cleaner, more resilient and sustainable economy.
The event, organized in collaboration with 3ZERO House Pakistan, focused on the growing urgency of climate action and the need to accelerate Pakistan’s transition from carbon-intensive economic activity towards low-carbon and climate-resilient development. The gathering provided a platform for stakeholders to examine the challenges and opportunities associated with decarbonization, clean energy, sustainable industry and climate finance.
The dialogue on “Low-Carbon Transition in Pakistan” highlighted that climate change is no longer merely an environmental issue but a major economic, developmental and business challenge. Rising temperatures, floods, water stress and extreme weather events are increasingly affecting Pakistan’s agriculture, infrastructure, energy security and livelihoods.
Participants emphasized the need to accelerate the transition towards renewable energy, energy efficiency, cleaner industrial technologies, sustainable transport and green investment. The private sector was identified as a key driver of this transition, particularly as global markets increasingly demand cleaner production, emissions reporting and environmentally sustainable supply chains.
The discussion also highlighted Pakistan’s unique climate vulnerability despite its relatively low contribution to global greenhouse-gas emissions. With continued dependence on fossil fuels, the energy sector remains central to the country’s decarbonization efforts. Greater investment in renewable energy, hydropower, clean technologies and energy efficiency can simultaneously reduce emissions and strengthen energy security.
Speakers stressed that Pakistan must move from climate commitments to practical implementation, supported by climate finance, green investment, industrial decarbonization and stronger institutional coordination.
