LAHORE – Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has approved a new uniform for the Lahore Traffic Police, set to be introduced from February 14.
The new uniforms will initially be rolled out in Lahore, with plans for broader implementation across the province in phases.
An official notification stated that the second phase will involve changing the uniforms of traffic police in Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Multan, and Rawalpindi districts. The third phase will expand the uniform change to other districts across Punjab.
In addition to the uniform change, the government is also introducing electric patrol vehicles, which will be linked with the Safe Cities Authority.
This initiative aims to save significant fuel costs, contributing to environmental sustainability and improved operational efficiency for the police force.
Last month, Punjab has launched the Pakistan’s first-ever Green Police Unit in a major step towards environment friendly policing across the province.

Last month, the chief minister the new police unit, which features an electric patrol vehicle.
During the event, the chief minister inspected the electric vehicle, even taking the wheel herself for a test drive. The vehicle, a state-of-the-art BYD electric car, will be used for patrolling Lahore’s traffic, contributing to a cleaner, greener environment.
CM Maryam was briefed on the details of the Green Police Unit and the electric vehicle, which boasts an impressive range of 410 kilometers per charge.
The vehicle also features advanced surveillance technology, including a modern PA system, police lights, a 360-degree camera, and speed detection tools.
A key highlight of the briefing was the cost-saving potential of the electric vehicles. Currently, 103 patrol vehicles consume around 28,000 liters of fuel every month, costing approximately 7.42 million rupees.
