Karachi girl kidnapped, raped at gunpoint by influential man in Gulshan-e-Maymar – Pakistan Observer

KARACHI – Another horrifying incident of sexual assault comes to light in Karachi’s Gulshan-e-Maymar, where 17-year-old girl was reportedly abducted and sexually assaulted by an influential man. The teenager has shared her harrowing experience, revealing the shocking details of the crime.

The girl said she was kidnapped while unconscious. The victim works in homes as a cleaner, and three men forcibly placed her in a vehicle and abducted her. Narrating her ordeal, the girl recounted that the suspects took her to a deserted, forest-like area and subjected her to violence. The girl accused a man named Sardar of sexually assaulting her at gunpoint, and added that she faced brutal torture when she tried to resist.

The girl’s family expressed deep anger and frustration at the police, claiming that when they went to the station, the police did not register a case and asked them to bring a medical report instead, delaying action. Even after completing the medical examination, the police have yet to file a case.

The grief stricken family sought help from PPP leader Shahida Rahmani, who took immediate notice. Rahmani contacted Faryal Talpur, the Sindh Interior Minister, and the DIG, informing them of the gravity of the situation. She condemned the alleged police negligence and demanded justice for the victim and her family.

The incident sparked outrage among local residents and human rights advocates, highlighting the urgent need for effective law enforcement and protection for vulnerable individuals in Karachi.

Sexual violence in Pakistan is widespread and serious issue, encompassing rape, sexual assault, harassment, child abuse, and acid attacks. Cases often go underreported due to social stigma, victim-blaming, fear of retaliation, and patriarchal norms that restrict women’s mobility and voice.

Survivors frequently face delays in police action or intimidation, especially when perpetrators are influential, making access to justice difficult. While Pakistan has laws against rape, harassment, and child sexual abuse, enforcement is inconsistent, and courts can be slow.
