Karachi court imposes penalty on company over faulty lifetime warranty refrigerator – Pakistan Observer

KARACHI – The Consumer Protection Court South Karachi has ordered an appliances and electrical manufacturer to pay compensation and replace a defective refrigerator sold with a lifetime warranty after it stopped working within a few months of purchase.

The court accepted a complaint filed by a citizen against the company and directed it to pay Rs200,000 as compensation, along with Rs50,000 as legal costs, for violating consumer rights.

The court also ordered the company to provide the complainant with a brand new refrigerator in place of the faulty one.

According to the complainant, Arif, he had purchased the refrigerator from Clifton a few months ago. The product was sold with a lifetime warranty; however, it developed faults within a short period.

The petition stated that despite multiple complaints and repair attempts, the refrigerator could not be fixed. The company allegedly kept delaying the matter by repeatedly promising a replacement but failed to fulfill its commitment.

After hearing arguments from both sides, the Consumer Protection Court ruled that the company’s conduct amounted to a violation of consumer protection laws and announced its verdict in favor of the consumer.
