LAHORE – The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has launched an investigation into a prominent Pakistani actress over alleged tax evasion, as per the reports circulating on the social media.
The actress, who has nearly 10 million followers across social media platforms, got married earlier last year. Initial inquiries suggest that the film and TV star, based in Lahore, allegedly spent over Rs 60 million on her lavish wedding.
Following the wedding, the FBR reviewed the actress’s declared income and lifestyle, raising concerns over a significant discrepancy. Although she registered with the FBR nine years ago, her tax returns reportedly do not reflect the financial capacity to cover such extravagant wedding expenses, frequent international trips, and regular high-profile events.
The investigators collected evidence from social media posts and videos, including wedding venues, catering, clothing, jewelry, and production costs, which collectively amount to approximately Rs67.7 million.
However, these expenditures were not reflected in her tax filings, suggesting the funds were sourced from unreported income.
According to the FBR, the actress’s consistently rising expenses and public events over recent years indicate a deliberate attempt to evade taxes. The board has recommended issuing a notice under Section 111 for unexplained income or assets. If the actress fails to provide satisfactory explanations for wedding and travel expenses, these funds could be treated as hidden income and included in taxable income.
The legal action under Section 192-A for deliberate tax evasion could also be considered if deemed appropriate.
