Karachi deploys Robot Cars to automatically issue E-Challans to No-Parking Violators – Pakistan Observer

KARACHI – Wrongly parked cars and chaotic traffic are a daily headache in Karachi, and a new kind of traffic cop hit the roads, amid stern crackdown against violators.

These sleek, high-tech patrol cars, equipped with automated cameras, silently scan streets, ready to catch any vehicle daring to break the no-parking rules. The moment violation is spotted, an e-challan is issued instantly, leaving no room for excuses.

Sindh capital is taking traffic enforcement to whole new level. Moving beyond traditional e-challans, Karachi police unveiled advanced vehicles equipped with automated cameras that will patrol the busiest commercial hubs, issuing instant fines to anyone daring to park illegally.

Traffic Admin DSP said preparations for this futuristic system are now complete. In its first phase, the high-tech patrol cars will target the bustling markets of Saddar and Tariq Road, areas notorious for traffic chaos and illegal parking.

These vehicles, driven by a human operator, will cruise at slow 20 km/h while continuously scanning the streets. Any car or motorcycle caught double-parked or in a no-parking zone will immediately trigger an e-challan to owner.

Officials stressed that initiative builds on existing system, where Karachi Traffic Police have already been issuing no-parking fines via Safe City cameras. Now, with these “robot camera cars,” the enforcement is becoming mobile, relentless, and virtually impossible to evade.
